Costco CEO Craig Jelinek supports raising the minimum wage.

Costco announced record profits today, averaging $10,000 in profit per employee compared to $7,400 at Walmart. 
The secret to Costco’s success is paying employees well, providing benefits, and giving them an opportunity to unionize.

So large corporations’ excuses that treating & paying workers well would damage profits are all a crock of shit.

I LOVE COSTCO.

Does Costco really pay workers $45,000/ year? Is this warehouse workers, or…? (BRB possibly switching jobs)

They also buy in gigantic quantities and pay their vendors quickly so that they get big discounts.

They don’t pay their employees $45,000 a year. They said the average of all employees is $45,000…including CEO and down. Their cashiers make $10-$17 an hour, depending on where the store is located and their experience. Also, comparing it to Walmart is unrealistic since they’re two different types of stores. People pay Costco for the right to shop their, while at Walmart you don’t. 

Not to mention, the minimum wage increase supported does nothing to help people. If you increase the minimum wage by ~0.43% ($7 to $10 an hour), the price of goods and services will increase roughly the same amount, thus negating the minimum wage increase. If your BigMac meal costs $5 now, it’ll eventually raise to close to $7. This just increases the rate of inflation that can never be reversed since barely any politicians will be elected with that stance. The employees outweigh the business owners, and most “employees” aren’t smart enough to know that raising the minimum wage does nothing to help their situation in the long run.
